How We Grow

Lots of people nowadays are becoming more aware of what’s in their food, where it comes from, and how it’s grown. The USDA provides an “organic” label which certifies that the grower followed a certain set of rules when producing his product. However, that doesn’t always mean that the end product is fresh or nutritious.
On the St. Joseph Homestead, we are beyond organic. We are committed to building healthy soil that produces strong, tasty, and nutrient-dense food; without the need for harmful pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers. We rarely deep till, which allows for the natural ecosystem of the garden to be undisturbed. We may not have the certified organic label, but we stand by our products being just as nutritious. We don’t sell anything we wouldn’t feed to our own family.
You'll get fresh food from us, too! Almost all of the commercial produce in the grocery store is from California. Sometimes it's delivered already a week old. We harvest and deliver weekly. We believe that it's so important to support local businesses and to keep the economy, here in Acadiana, strong and supportive of one another. Don't just shop with us! Find other businesses to support near you.
But it doesn’t stop in the garden. For us and many other families, we strive to have a more wholesome life. The homestead for us means slowing down, working as a family, and uniting everything we do to our Catholic Faith. Nothing can replace the satisfaction of growing your own food, sitting down to a home-cooked meal, and watching children learn life lessons on the farm. You are bringing the homestead to your table by supporting us. Thank you!
